Doppler Effect
The shift in frequency of sound or light due to relative movement towards or away from the object producing the sound or light. Moving away from the source stretches the wavelength. Moving towards the source compresses the wave length. With sound this makes the pitch higher as the source approaches and lower as it moves away. With light it makes it appear red as the source approaches and blue as it moves away.
